This is Macavity, one of my "babies". He's my security blanket - always underfoot or in my lap, purring. In this picture, he's modeling one of my baby hats...

This is Rocket, my other "baby". He's also my "guard dog". As seen above, he likes to be left alone when he's found a comfy spot to sleep.

The definition of crochet:

From middle French, diminutive of croche hook, of Scandinavian origin:
akin to Old Norse krokr hook 1844.

It is so much more.

Crochet is not just a craft; it has long been part of our history.
Egyptian tombs contained lace that was crocheted by twisting cotton between the fingers and making the loops by hand.
Lavish crochet emerged with other elaborate needlework in the 1800’s.
Income from crochet work saved the Irish from starvation in the late 1800’s.
Filet crochet became popular around the 1850’s.

The list is endless.

Don’t let the history die. Teach someone to crochet and keep the craft alive for our future generations.

I learned to crochet at a very young age. I never considered it that special until I was ill several years ago. It was then that I realized how important this would be to my life. Not only did it give me something to occupy my time but it also has become my therapy; both physical and mental.

I have fought illness for the past 30 years. Being able to create something so wonderful has not only boosted my ego but has made me realize what a wonderful thing my great aunt did when she taught me to crochet. She wasn’t just passing time, she was passing down a piece of our history.

Thank You Great-Aunt Gladys for sharing history with me. This site is dedicated to your memory.
